English invoice, customer wants Hindi numbers

February a PWD contractor uncle came to my shop. Dausa work, he said. He needed three phones for site.

He talked Hindi. He wanted the bill in English because the office file is English.

I made English invoice. Names, numbers, total 41,850.

He looked. He said, numbers I don't trust. Put in words. Like cheque.

He tapped the total. He said, Hindi me likho. Barah nahi, the full thing.

I sat confused. English invoice. Hindi numbers. Which one.

He meant two things mixed. Amount in words, Indian way. And he like seeing the words, because digits can be changed with a pen. 4 can become 9 if someone is a criminal in his mind.

English invoice, what actually happened

I opened rupees in words on BillOnDesk.

I typed 41850. It gave me the English Indian style. Rupees Forty One Thousand Eight Hundred Fifty only.

Not forty-one thousand like a US movie. Indian grouping. We say thousand, then lakh, not million.

Uncle said, this is ok for the file. Then he said, on the print, I will also write in Hindi with pen.

I said ok. I left a line under the total. Amount in words.

I copied from the tool so I don't spell eighty wrong. I spell eighty wrong since school. Eightty. Shame.

I put the words on the invoice note. Then print. He wrote below in Hindi, his hand. His file, his language.

I did not pretend the website is a Hindi government form. It is English site. Draft paper. Not GSTN. Not a CA.

Why this fight exist in Rajasthan shops.

Many clerks are older. They learned cheque books. Amount in words is the check against digits.

If invoice say 41,850 and words say something else, they reject.

I had that error in 2025. Total 12,499. I wrote Twelve thousand four hundred ninety nine, but I typed 12,449 in the number box by mistake. Clerk in a Jaipur school called. I went red. I made new paper.

Now I run the number through rupees in words after the invoice total is final. Not before. If I add a cover later, words must change too.

Hindi numbers also mean the digit shapes. १ २ ३. Some panchayat files like that.

My tool give English words. I don't type Devanagari digits on the English invoice usually, because then the clerk who wanted English get angry the other way.

One file, one script for digits. Words can be extra.

Uncle was happy with English digits plus English words plus his own Hindi line.

Another customer, a sweet shop owner from Jhotwara, wanted only Hindi words, no English.

I wrote by hand on the print. I am slow in Hindi spelling of large amounts. I used the English words as a guide, then translated. Forty one thousand is iktalis hazar. I checked on phone with a family WhatsApp group like a fool. My sister corrected me.

For shop, I keep it simple. Tool for English words. Hand for Hindi if they insist.

Do not mix 41,850 and 4,18,50. Indian comma is 41,850 for this amount. For lakh, 1,23,456 style.

I saw a freelancer in C-Scheme write 41.850 with a dot like Europe. Uncle would have exploded.

Rupee sign. I write Rs or INR. I don't write $. We are not selling in dollar. One boy designed my cousin's bill with $ by template. I removed.

How I get rupees in words right

Paise. If total is 41,850.00 I still write only, no paise. If 41,850.50 then words should have paise. Round off is another headache. I wrote on that separately in my head. Use item total calculator first, then words.

The PWD uncle also asked, put amount in words on quotation, not only invoice.

Makes sense. Owner approve words. So I use the same tool when I fill quotation maker. I paste words in the note.

If quote valid till date pass and rate change, words change. Don't reuse old words with new digits. That is how people say you cheated.

July I updated a small habit.

I read the words loud. Forty one thousand eight hundred fifty only.

Uncle nod. If he nod, later he cannot say he didn't see.

Only. That word. Cheque style. It close the amount. I like it. I put it.

What I don't do.

I don't generate some fake Hindi tax invoice with government look.

I don't use Hindi numbers to hide a different English total. Both must match.

I don't let WhatsApp auto translate the PDF. It mess names.

Shop name stay as on GST if I put GSTIN. Don't translate shop name into poetry.

Numbers in words for 7,00,000 is seven lakh, not 700 thousand. Indian customers hear lakh. The tool on this site is for that Indian rupee way. That is why I use it, not some random US converter that say hundred thousand.

A college student asked me to write 2,50,000 as 250K. I said this is not Instagram. This is a bill. He laughed. I still wrote two lakh fifty thousand only.

If the amount is 0, don't make a bill. Sounds joke. A man asked zero value invoice for some internal. I said I don't understand, ask CA. I am shop. I sell phones.

Dausa uncle paid part cash, part UPI. I wrote that on payment receipt also, and I put words there too. Received rupees... only.

He put all papers in a plastic file. Yellow. PWD colour in my mind now.

His clerk later messaged, words ok, please put invoice number bigger.

I made again. Words same, number bigger. I don't mind. Better than rejection.

A school in Lalsot sent back one bill because I wrote Forty One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty. They don't like the and. Their clerk format is Forty One Thousand Eight Hundred Fifty only.

I made again. Small English fight. Not worth ego.

Another man wanted Hindi digits in the qty column. १० power bank. I said qty I keep 10 in English, words for the money only. Mixing digit script in qty make the total look like a puzzle. He accepted.

If you make English invoice for a Hindi speaking office, don't fight the words line.

They are not insulting your English. They are protecting the amount.

Use the rupees in words, paste, print, sign.

If they want extra Hindi, pen is still allowed in Nawalgarh and Dausa and my Raja Park counter.

Computer is not the enemy of Hindi. Empty words line is the enemy.

I still spell eighty in my head twice. Then I copy from the tool.

That is the whole system. English bill. Indian words. Pen if uncle want. No drama with million. No fake stamp.
