Composition shop, bill of supply draft
I am composition, customer wanted tax invoice, CA said bill of supply draft only.
I run a small mobile shop near the bus stand in Churu.
Last Diwali a man from the cement factory came. He wanted GST invoice with 18 percent written on every line. I almost made that paper. Then I remembered the yellow sticky note my CA uncle stuck on the cash box.
Composition shop, what actually happened
The note said composition. Not regular. Do not give tax invoice like the big showroom.
I am under composition. My turnover is not that huge. CA filed that scheme for me two years back. I pay a simple tax on turnover. I do not collect GST from customer the same way a regular dealer does.
So the paper I give is a bill of supply draft. Not a tax invoice.
Customer does not like this word. He thinks bill of supply means cheap shop. I explain slow. I am composition. Law is different. I cannot show CGST SGST like the mall.
He still argued. His accounts uncle in Jaipur wants input credit. I said sorry, from me you will not get that credit. Composition shop cannot pass GST credit. This is the whole point.
He went to the showroom near clock tower. Fine. I kept my sticky note.
I used to write bills in a red notebook. Shop name, item, amount. No GSTIN. No bill type. When GST people asked during a survey, I showed the notebook and they made a face.
Now I keep a bill of supply draft on BillOnDesk. It is a draft. Not GSTN. Not official. I still file on the government portal with my CA. This paper is only for the customer to see what he bought.
I type seller name. My shop. Churu address. My GSTIN. I write composition dealer in the note line so nobody gets confused later.
Buyer name. Sometimes only a mobile number if he is a walk-in. Factory man wanted company name. I typed it.
Items. One phone. One cover. One cable. Qty. Rate. Total. I do not put 18 percent column on this draft. That is the mistake I almost did.
If I put tax percent on a composition bill, the paper starts looking like a regular tax invoice. Customer will try to claim credit. That is a mess for him and for me.
BillOnDesk is not GSTN. I say this again because last month a boy in the market asked me, is this the government site. No. Draft only. Watermark DRAFT is there. I do not remove it and pretend.
I also do not print hologram. I do not draw Ashoka. I do not copy some random invoice number from a big company. That is fraud. I need a simple paper that matches my composition status.
When I first opened the tool I used GST invoice draft by mistake. Same items. Tax column. Looked fancy. I showed CA on WhatsApp. He called in two minutes. Delete. You are composition. Use bill of supply.
I felt stupid. But better stupid in the shop than stupid in a notice.
Composition people get this confusion every week. Customer sees GST written on the board of some other shop. He thinks every shop must give the same bill. No. Scheme is different. Regular dealer. Composition. Unregistered. All different papers.
I am registered. I have GSTIN. I still give bill of supply.
On the draft I write invoice number from my own series. I do not jump numbers. CA told me keep one series for the year. I use the invoice number helper when I forget the last number.
How I fill bill of supply draft
Date. Always today. Once I back dated because customer said his office need last month. I did not. I told him I can write today date only on a draft. If his office need old paper, that is his problem, not my crime.
Amount in words I check twice. I have a habit of writing five thousand when the total is five thousand five hundred. The rupees in words box on the site helps when I am tired.
Print. I take A4 from the photo studio next door. Thermal roll in my shop cuts the footer. For composition paper I like the full page. Customer can file it in his file.
Some customers still say, bhai GST nahi dikha rahe. I say composition. Bill of supply. You can google, or ask your CA. I am not hiding tax. I pay my composition tax. I am not collecting extra from you.
This talk takes four minutes. Better than a fight after three months.
I keep one copy. Phone photo of the print. Original to customer. Notebook still has a line, because old habit. CA said notebook is not enough, but notebook plus draft is okay for my size.
What I write in the note field.
Composition dealer. Bill of supply. Draft for record. Not a tax invoice. No ITC from this paper.
I copied this line from CA. I paste it every time. Customers who can read English nod. Others I explain in Hindi.
One farmer bought a keypad phone. He did not care bill of supply or tax invoice. He wanted a paper for the warranty. I still used the same draft. Warranty is shop policy. Paper type is GST type. Two different things. I write IMEI on the item line. That helps more than a fake 18 percent.
A college boy wanted me to write GST 18 percent extra so his father can claim. I refused. That is not a small mistake. That is a wrong document. I will not do it for fifty rupees profit on a cover.
If you are also composition in a small town, do not copy the mall format. Mall is regular. You are not.
Use the bill of supply tool. Fill shop, buyer, items, total. Keep DRAFT. Print. Give.
If you later shift to regular scheme, then the other tool. Not before. CA will tell you when. Not a YouTube short.
I had a friend in Ratangarh. He printed tax invoices for two months while still composition. His CA found it at return time. He had to explain. He lost sleep. I learned from his face.
My shop is small. Redmi, covers, earphones, power bank. I do not need a fancy ERP. I need a paper that is honest about what I am.
Honest is composition. Honest paper is bill of supply draft.
When the factory man came back after two weeks for a screen guard, he did not ask tax invoice. He said, wahi supply wala bill de dena. I smiled. Teaching done.
If a customer is a registered business and he really needs ITC, he should buy from a regular dealer. I say this politely. I do not pretend I can give ITC. I cannot.
Stamp. I have a rubber stamp, shop name. I stamp the print. Signature by hand.
On the draft, address of shop must match what CA put in GST. I used to write Churu Bus Stand only. Now I write shop number, market name, pin.
Customer asked for a hologram like medicine strip. I laughed. This is a mobile cover bill, not a medicine. BillOnDesk will not draw government hologram.
Helper once wrote GST 1 percent on the bill because he heard composition is 1 percent. I tore that draft. Made a fresh bill of supply with only item total. CA said, do not invent tax columns. Clean means items, qty, rate, amount, grand total, composition note.
I am not GSTN. BillOnDesk is not GSTN. Official return is separate. Ask your CA.
Sticky note still on the cash box. When I open the bill of supply draft now it takes four minutes. Customer drinks tea outside. Paper is ready. Right paper for the scheme I actually have.
Open the paper: Bill of Supply Draft. Draft only. Not GSTN.
